JM Furniture is owned and operated by the Herman family. In 1970 Charles and Joyce Herman brought their 3 children to Carson City. The young family lived in an apartment within walking distance of the old vacant Ford dealership. Charles leased and renovated the art deco building and opened a furniture store using his wife's initials, JM. In doing so, Charles Herman (1942-1998) developed a business formula that was ideal for Carson City and that his son Jeff and daughter Jacque follow to this day.
The formula is no secret, but rather a few simple principles: Hire and maintain a staff of great customer relations people; Offer high quality brand names and buy in quantities large enough to keep prices down. JM Furniture has grown to be a Northern Nevada family success story by offering services that people need such as free delivery and special financing options with approved credit.
In 1973 the present location of the main store opened on north Carson Street - offering 50,000 square feet of showroom, warehouse and plenty of easy access parking.
In 2003, JM opened a new store in the Carson Valley Plaza called "At Home With JM Furniture," managed by Jacque's husband, Todd Werner.
On Monday April 8, 2013, the "At Home With JM Furniture" store will celebrate a Relocation Grand Opening at 4530 S. Carson Street, featuring rustic lodge furniture, custom orders, and a mattress gallery. The "At Home" store offers customers an additional selection of merchandise and a "different look".
