Owned and operated by the Herman family, JM Furniture first came to Carson City in 1970 and was located across from the Ormsby House. In January 1973 the present location on north Carson Street opened, offering 50,000 square feet of showroom, warehouse and plenty of easy access parking.

In December 2003, JM Furniture expanded with a second store, At Home with JM Furniture, located in the Carson Valley Plaza.
